The 2024 Nissan Versa brings a touch of sophistication to the subcompact sedan segment. Fresh from last year’s updates, this quintessential economy car provides a premium appearance and feel at an affordable price. Its modern exterior lines and stylish cabin give it a look that’s uncommon in this segment.
There’s also a practical side to the Versa, with relatively ample trunk space and helpful folding rear seats. In addition, Nissan gives its smallest model an edge with class-leading driver-assist technology, including rear automatic braking, a feature that’s not available on most Versa competitors. It all adds up to a well-rounded package that’s hard for budget-minded buyers to overlook.
Trims and Powertrain
There are three versions of the 2024 Nissan Versa: S, SV, and SR. All of them are front-wheel drive and equipped with a 122-horsepower 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine. The S still comes with a five-speed manual transmission, but drivers who prefer not to do their own shifting can opt for a continuously variable transmission (CVT); the CVT is standard on the higher trims. For a Versa with the manual gearbox, the EPA-estimated fuel economy is 27 mpg in the city and 35 mpg on the highway. The automatic changes the ratings to 32 mpg around town and 40 mpg on the open road.
Standard Features
With a focus on value and affordability, Nissan keeps the Versa S concentrated on the essentials, with a few extras such as remote keyless entry, power side mirrors, and automatic headlights. This entry-level subcompact also has manually controlled air conditioning, cloth upholstery, a six-way manually adjustable driver's seat, a four-way manually adjustable front passenger seat, a tilt and telescopic steering column, three USB-A ports, and 15-inch steel wheels with covers. A 60/40-split folding rear seat, 16-inch aluminum wheels, and additional infotainment features (which are covered below) can be added via the optional S+ Package.
The mid-level SV’s upgrades include improved fabric upholstery, push-button start, a center console with an armrest, wireless device charging, one USB-A port and two USB-C ports, and 16-inch aluminum wheels. The SR layers in premium features like heated front seats, automatic climate control, remote start, proximity keyless entry, sport cloth upholstery, a third USB-C port, LED headlights, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, heated power side mirrors with built-in LED turn-signal indicators, a rear spoiler, Prima-Tex-appointed dash trim, and 17-inch aluminum wheels.
Advanced Driver Aids and Safety Technology
All 2024 Versa trims have Nissan Safety Shield 360 installed. This suite of driver-assist technologies includes forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, lane departure warning, rear automatic braking, and automatic high beams. The SV and SR also receive blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and a driver alert monitor. The SR alone gets adaptive cruise control. Every trim is set up with a complete set of airbags, anti-lock brakes, stability control, traction control, hill start assist, and a rearview monitor.
Infotainment and Connectivity
Infotainment management for the Versa S and SV goes through a 7-inch touchscreen (the SV and the S with the optional S+ Package get an upgraded NissanConnect version). An 8-inch NissanConnect touchscreen is installed in the SR. For all three trims, the supporting technology includes Bluetooth, Siri Eyes Free, and hands-free text messaging assistance. While the two lower trims get a four-speaker AM/FM audio system, the SR has six speakers plus SiriusXM satellite radio. Android Auto and Apple CarPlay are standard equipment for the SV and SR.
